A Man, A Can, A Plan – A Second Helping

Rodale Press releases another book from award-winning author/editor David Joachim’s “A Man, A Can” series. The book, titled “A Man, A Can, A Plan, A Second Helping: 50 Fast Meals to Satisfy Your Healthy Appetite” contains 50 new guy-friendly recipes like Chili Empanadas, Noodilicious Ramen Salad, Cheez-It Crusted Chicken and more. Step-by-step instructions and full-color photos aid even the most inexperienced kitchen hands.

And don’t let the title fool you. This book isn’t exclusively for men! It would also be great for high school grads, college grads and others who might feel lost in the kitchen.

Ruby Slippers Cookbook Brings Closure in Katrina Aftermath

“Ruby Slippers Cookbook: Life, Culture, Family and Food After Katrina,” by New Orleans author Amy Cyrex Sins, recently received the prestigious Gourmand World Cookbook Award.

After losing her home and in particular, her collection of recipes from family and friends, Cyrex Sins began compiling more than 130 recipes from not just family and friends, but also neighbors, strangers and her favorite New Orleans restaurants. Along with those recipes, the book contains lavish photography, historical tidbits, and the author’s personal history of surviving the mess left in Katrina’s wake.
A portion of the proceeds from this book go to Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana, a nonprofit organization set up to preserve wetlands. For more information, visit www.rubyslippersnola.com.

Cook’s Illustrated Hails Mighty Leaf Tea

The July/August issue of Cook’s Illustrated magazine has named Mighty Leaf Tea’s Organic Breakfast the “Best Plain Premium Black Tea” within the specialty tea category.

“We are thrilled that our Organic Breakfast has been recognized by this authority in the gastronomy realm for its full-bodied flavor,” says Gary Shinner, CEO.
Shinner and his, wife Jill Portman, founded the company in 1996 and created their signature hand-stitched, translucent mesh Tea Pouch. They created the pouch as an effective way of delivering precision-portioned servings of its multi-dimensional whole-leaf tea blends filled with chunks of fruit, spices and flavors too big for ordinary tea bags.
